The Federal Bureau of Investigation is said to be pressuring Internet Service Providers to keep records of every site you visit for at least two years. They claim it would help in investigations of serious crimes.
FBI Director Robert Mueller supports storing internet uses “orgin and destination information”. In 2006, Mueller has been calling for ISP’s to retain this kind of information. In 2008 he asked congress to enact a law that would make it mandatory for ISP’s to retain this information.
Robert Mueller is not alone on this issue, a recent survey of state computer crime investigators found the surveyed are, for the most part, supporting this idea.
