Dummies Guide to Overclocking

Dummies Guide to Overclocking

Use the information provided in this guide at your own risk.  I do not consider my self to be an expert.  I am not responsible for any damage caused by doing what was suggested in this guide.

I am using an Intel q9550 and Asus P5Q Pro Turbo in this guide.

Overclock - to raise the speed of the CPU, GPU, memory, or any buses with the quantifier that tells its speed: “hertz”.

Overclocking is a great way to get more bang for your buck.  Overclocking is very easy; it’s just the fact that you could really mess things up that makes it seem hard.  First you will NEED the following:

  • An after market heatsink (for LGA 775 sockets I recommend the ARCTIC COOLING Freezer 7 Pro) Note: You may need to get thermal paste as well
  • Know what type of CPU you have (This guide is geared towards Intel’s Duo and Quad series, but should apply to others)
  • Have a good power supply (not some no name 400 watt PSU)
  • Calculator
  • Core Temp
  • Prime95
  • CPU-Z

First, Download CPU-Z.  Run it and look for ‘Core Voltage’ (should be something like 1.insertnumbers V).  Write down that entire number (usually 4 digit number).  You will need this later.

Now go to http://intel.com and look up your CPU.  Once you have selected your CPU you should get a page with a lot of information you may not understand.  You will only need to look for 1 thing on this page, the ‘VID Voltage Range’ (Refer to the image below).

GeoCities Shutting its Doors!

Posted by admin On October - 8 - 2009

Yahoo will soon be shutting down their free web hosting service GeoCities on October 26.  Having acquired GeoCities back in 1999 for billions of dollars, Yahoo says they are saddened to have to close it.  They are currently offering users to upgrade to their paid service at a first years discount.  With the closing of GeoCities the web will no longer be plagued with the famous cheesy looking web pages blanketed with ads, However critics say that we will lose a lot of good information.

Good Bye GeoCities!

A2A Simulations Relases V1.1 Patch for Piper Cub

Posted by admin On October - 3 - 2009

A2A Simulations has released their first patch v1.1 for their latest aircraft the Piper Cub. Some new features in has are:

1.Paddle to and from a dock or any shoreline with a functional oar.

2.Make advanced water to land landings with Tundra tires. This allows for safer landings near shorelines and lakes. While the tundras are larger than regular tires, they are not floats, so if you get too slow over the water, they can pull you in and nose over. Be careful and respectful of the dangers of skipping over water. The wave physics are enabled, so you may get some bucking up and down at speed.

3. Hand towing (CONTROLS PANEL). This allows you to slowly pull or push your aircraft after the engine has been shut off.
– New tie-down physics will hold aircraft steady. If you use the tie down on water, it will simulate a tie down near a dock. The plane will still rock back and forth in the water, but it will behave as if it is roped down.

4. Audible damage physics. This means if you push an engine, especially if cold, you will hear some slightly different sounds coming from the engine.

You can download the v1.1 patch (70.21MB) for free at: http://www.gamershell.com/download_51700.shtml
