Google SketchUp 7

Posted by admin On September - 25 - 2009

This free to download 3-D drawing program, relaesed by Google, which is compatible with Windows XP/Vista and Mac OS X (10.4 and up). In this review, I will systematicly review it, then give you a link to the download page

Tutorials

Google has many tutorials for SketchUp that you may view at anytime. My tech ed teacher had us watch these when we started using it, and they are good quality. Here are all the videos. For this service, I give them a 10/

Operation

Once the tutorials are viewed, operating SketchUp is very easy. In addition, the Help tab has files that you can use to practice by imatating an animation. If the Large Tool Set toolbar is displayed, anything you will need will be on the left side of the screen. Since you must set up an important part on your own, I give this part a 9.

File Size

This program packs itself into only 57.2 MB, so almost anyone can install. My wimpy 32 GB hard drive with FS2004 and FSX can hold it, so can yours. I give this a 10, as if you compress the file, it is only about 32 MB.

Glitches

Occasionally, popups denying access to 0.skp will appear, although it does nothing. Also, if you use tools in ways they souldn’t be, you may get a giant cylinder instead of a sphere or something even crazier. Since it has glitches, I’ll give it a 7.

Downloadables

The 3-D warehouse allow you to download many real buildings created by other anvanced SketchUp users. Most buildings you can think of are there, and most are high quality. I give this feature a 9, because anyone can submit and some are low quality.

Overall, this product gets a 46/50. There is also a Pro edition you can purchase if you wish. The free download page is here. If you liked what you heard and want to download, I highly recommend it.
