FBI wants Internet Providers to Keep More Info

Posted by admin On February - 5 - 2010ADD COMMENTS

The Federal Bureau of Investigation is said to be pressuring Internet Service Providers to keep records of every site you visit for at least two years.  They claim it would help in investigations of serious crimes.

FBI Director Robert Mueller supports storing internet uses “orgin and destination information”.  In 2006, Mueller has been calling for ISP’s to retain this kind of information.  In 2008 he asked congress to enact a law that would make it mandatory for ISP’s to retain this information.

Robert Mueller is not alone on this issue, a recent survey of state computer crime investigators found the surveyed are, for the most part, supporting this idea.

Do you agree with Mr. Mueller, or think this is against the law?  Leave us a comment on your thoughts.

ATI Sapphire 5850 Review

Posted by admin On December - 28 - 2009ADD COMMENTS

Introduction

The ATI 5850 is ATI’s response to Nvidia’s GTX 285. Both cards perform similarly, but the 5850 has the advantage of DirectX 11. This review will look at how the 5850 performs in various games ranging in genre and age. We will compare the 5850 with Nvidia’s 9800GTX KO. We are doing this comparison because 9800GTX KO and lower users are reaching the point where upgrading might be something on their mind, and this review will show how big of a boost, if any, you would get.  That being said by no means think that we imply that these 2 cards are similar.  the 5850 is an entire generation ahead for the 9800GTX+ and it shows.

All tests are performed using the highest possible settings for the game and at a resolution of 1680×1050. Some tests have different settings and will be stated if this is the case. The 5850 used in this review is the Sapphire 5850 with 1 GB of GDDR5 ram. The 9800GTX used is the EVGA 9800GTX KO with 512 MB of GDDR3 ram. Below is a comparison between the two graphic cards. Note that the 9800GTX KO is a slightly faster version of the 9800GTX+ and due to this will be referred as a 9800GTX+ during this review.

Dummies Guide to Overclocking

Posted by admin On October - 14 - 2009ADD COMMENTS
Dummies Guide to Overclocking

Use the information provided in this guide at your own risk.  I do not consider my self to be an expert.  I am not responsible for any damage caused by doing what was suggested in this guide.

I am using an Intel q9550 and Asus P5Q Pro Turbo in this guide.

Overclock - to raise the speed of the CPU, GPU, memory, or any buses with the quantifier that tells its speed: “hertz”.

Overclocking is a great way to get more bang for your buck.  Overclocking is very easy; it’s just the fact that you could really mess things up that makes it seem hard.  First you will NEED the following:

  • An after market heatsink (for LGA 775 sockets I recommend the ARCTIC COOLING Freezer 7 Pro) Note: You may need to get thermal paste as well
  • Know what type of CPU you have (This guide is geared towards Intel’s Duo and Quad series, but should apply to others)
  • Have a good power supply (not some no name 400 watt PSU)
  • Calculator
  • Core Temp
  • Prime95
  • CPU-Z

First, Download CPU-Z.  Run it and look for ‘Core Voltage’ (should be something like 1.insertnumbers V).  Write down that entire number (usually 4 digit number).  You will need this later.

Now go to http://intel.com and look up your CPU.  Once you have selected your CPU you should get a page with a lot of information you may not understand.  You will only need to look for 1 thing on this page, the ‘VID Voltage Range’ (Refer to the image below).

GeoCities Shutting its Doors!

Posted by admin On October - 8 - 2009ADD COMMENTS

Yahoo will soon be shutting down their free web hosting service GeoCities on October 26.  Having acquired GeoCities back in 1999 for billions of dollars, Yahoo says they are saddened to have to close it.  They are currently offering users to upgrade to their paid service at a first years discount.  With the closing of GeoCities the web will no longer be plagued with the famous cheesy looking web pages blanketed with ads, However critics say that we will lose a lot of good information.

Good Bye GeoCities!
